Many of the artisans with whom we work are celebrated, award-winning
talent whose work is displayed in museums, galleries and personal collections all over the world.  Others are relatively "undiscovered" with stunning new ideas and
pieces that we are thrilled to introduce to the retail public.  All of them are exceptional masters of their craft, bringing their hearts and, in many cases, thousands of years of tradition to the creation of their distinctive pieces.

Ramón Suárez ~ Located on the campus of the Gene Byron Museum in Guanajuato, Ramón Suárez’s workshop produces beautiful metal lanterns combining Spanish, Mexican and Moorish influences. Suárez’s lanterns have been commissioned for use in fine homes, hotels and restaurants. His work has also been pictured in publications including “Architectural Digest”.

Chilo~ Chilo has been creating beautiful and unique metal pieces for over 30 years. His stunning mirrors are extremely sought after and commensurately hard to find. The “Marco de Rosas” mirror, which is covered in hundreds of handmade metal roses, recently was awarded special recognition by the Mexican government for its contribution to the field of fine metalwork.

Isaac Vásquez and Ernesto Vásquez ~ Located in the village of Teotitlán de Valle in Oaxaca, the celebrated Vásquez family hand looms some of Latin America’s finest rugs and tapestries. Using the same methods their Zapotec Indian ancestors did over 2,000 years ago, members of the family hand card, spin, dye (using all natural dyes) and weave the finest local yarns into works of great beauty and unexpected refinement.

Many of patriarch Isaac’s Vásquez’s works have been displayed in major museums throughout the world, and Isaac, himself, has been featured in numerous publications on leading Mexican artists. While Isaac no longer weaves, he travels frequently to museums around the world to demonstrate his masterful techniques.

Gorky González ~ Widely credited with reintroducing the majolica style of ceramics to Mexico, Gorky González is one of Mexico’s foremost artists. It is in large part because of his groundbreaking work that the Mexican state of Guanajuato has become recognized as one of the world’s foremost producers of majolica ceramics.

Gorky’s work has been the subject of major exhibits throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas and today many of his pieces reside in permanent collections worldwide. Artemisa is proud to feature many of Gorky’s more whimsical pieces, including his chickens and gourd-like ceramic birds.
